The Destination Wedding Workbook

  Niagara-on-the-Lake
from the Niagara Falls Honeymoon Planner

Sometimes a destination seems so perfect it's like a movie set. Niagara-on-the-Lake is just such a destination. Every shop and house is perfect. Every tulip is perfect. In fact, it makes the perfect day trip from Niagara Falls.

The small town atmosphere of Niagara-on-the-Lake is a nice contrast to the busier Niagara Falls, a chance for couples to unwind with a quiet carriage ride, a winery tour, or even a little shopping. Throughout the year, the getaway is a favorite destination with B&B lovers and wine lovers alike.

Carriage Rides

One of the best ways to get an overview of the town is aboard a romantic horse-drawn carriage; you can catch a carriage just outside the Prince of Wales Inn.

The carriage will transport the two of you past the town's many Victorian homes (many now serving as B&Bs) and alongside the chilly waters of Lake Ontario. Often called the prettiest town in Canada, it's easy to see why with a look at this community.

Downtown

Back downtown, plan to spend a few hours just strolling Queen Street. Start with a quick stop by the Visitors Center (right) for maps and brochures (and nearby restrooms).

The visitors center sits in the middle of what's called the heritage district, filled with shops.

Shaw Festival

From March through November, the town attracts theater buffs who arrive for the Shaw Festival, a celebration of the plays of George Bernard Shaw and his contemporaries. Three theaters in the community serve as venues: the Festival Theatre, the George Theatre, and the Court House Theatre.
