April 2007 -- The gentle, rolling waves of the Caribbean
sea washing up on the shore below seemed to imitate the sound of applause
as pop star Paulina Rubio and her love of the past two years, Nicolas
"Colate" Vallejo-Najera walked out of the San Fransicso of
Assisi chapel on April 30, 2007 as husband and wife.
The house of worship, set upon a lush hillside of the
Xcarate Eco Theme Park in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, offered the newlyweds
not only a view of the ocean but also that of an ecological and archaeological
area graced with Mayan ruins, an aquarium, butterfly pavilion and a
regional wildlife enclosure.
Following the nuptials the groom and his bride, who had
walked down the aisle in style in a strapless, natural silk muslin gown
with crystal accents created by designer Rosa Clara, joined 200 guests,
including gossip guru Raul de Molina, actress/singer Patricia Monterola
and singer Alejandro Sanz at one of the venue's two underground rivers,
where they dined on duck and lobster as they enjoyed a performance by
music legend Juan Gabriel.
