July 2006 -- As
the strains of Mendelssohn's "The Wedding March" began,
pop/punk princess Avril Lavigne, clutching a bouquet of pale
roses, took her father's arm and stepped onto the white aisle
runner which stretched out along the sun-dappled grounds of
a private, palm-laden Montecito, California estate, leading
her toward a blossom-bedecked awning where Sum 41 frontman Deryck
Whibley waited to make her his wife.
Beneath the blusher
of her diaphanous veil, the singer could see the 150 guests
who stood in her honor as she walked past in an ivory strapless
Vera Wang gown composed of tissue organza and an applique lace
beaded skirt with a scalloped hem. At the altar, four bridesmaids
in pink crepe chiffon dresses, each holding bouquets fashioned
by Mark's Garden, looked on as their friend exchanged vows with
the man she loves, who wore a black Hugo Boss suit offset with
a white Brioni tie for the July 15, 2006 ceremony.
Following the ceremony,
the bride changed into an ivory Chantilly lace creation, also
by Vera Wang, before joining her guests for a candlelight dinner
featuring steak, salmon and ravioli served on silver plates.
As attendees sampled slices of a chocolate and vanilla wedding
cake, the newlyweds took to the dance floor, swaying to the
bride's favorite romantic tune, "Iris" by The Goo
Goo Dolls.
After saying good-bye
to family and friends, the lovebirds enjoyed their first night
together as husband and wife at the San Ysidro Ranch, which
was the honeymoon hideaway for Sandra
Bullock and Jesse James and Julia
Roberts and Danny Moder.
