LARA
FABIAN
by Grace Sydney
Named after the heroine in the romantic epic Doctor Zhivago, Belgium-born
Lara Fabian- a resident of Canada for many years- is most often
compared musically with a celebrated native of that country- Celine
Dion. Her legions of fans worldwide, however, can attest to the
fact that this songstress, who co-writes many of her compositions,
is a talent endowed with her own unique qualities. Embraced by
the French-speaking public, Lara Fabian has garnered many Juno
awards (the Canadian equivalant of a Grammy), and has even been
honored with a wax image of her likeness, which is on display
in the Musee Grevin in Paris, France. With the rest of the world
under her spell, Lara Fabian has set her sights on America, releasing
her first English album in 2000.
NUE
As the title suggests,
Lara Fabian lays her soul bare in her latest album, Nue (Nude).
Knowledge of the French language is not necessary as the singer's
voice easily translates the emotions found in such stirring tracks
as "Bambina,""Immortelle," and the album's
first single, "Aimer Deja."
