Lennox Lewis Weds in Jamaica Who: heavyweight
boxing champion Lennox Lewis and former Miss Jamaica runner-up
Violet Chang When: July
15, 2005 Where: As
both the bride and groom are of Jamaican descent, the William
Knibb Memorial Baptist Church at Falmouth, Jamaica was chosen
as their wedding locale. The Ceremony:
Her eyes fixed upon her husband-to-be, the bride walked with
her mother and uncle past 200 guests down an aisle sprinkled
with fragrant rose petals and orchid blossoms. It was the same
path taken moments before by the groom, who carried the couple's
young son as he strolled to the altar alongside his mother.
Witnesses were treated to a rendition of the classic ballad
"Our Love Is Here To Stay" before the ceremony's conclusion,
at which time the newly dubbed Mr. and Mrs. Lewis partook of
the age old custom of jumping the broom. The Dress:
Roger Gary, whose fashions have appeared on beauty pageant runways,
provided a lace veil embellished with Swarovski crystals which
draped over the bride's sleek chignon and skimmed over her strapless
Ann Barge gown, its form-fitting bodice flowing into a full
satin skirt complete with a bustle. The groom looked
dapper in a dove-colored suit accented with a dark lapel-- the
creation of Oswald Boateng, a British designer favored by Seal
and Robbie Williams. The Reception:
After a 20-minute drive from Falmouth, a light lunch was
served to guests at Good Hope Country House, a Georgian plantation
constructed in 1755 which is situated on 2,000 secluded acres.
As the day wore on, attendees convened at the 7th hole of the
Cinnamon Hill Golf Course on the grounds of the Wyndham Rose
Hall Resort, where a six-course banquet was served by the remains
of an aqueduct. Music and dancing commenced after guests sampled
the four-tier wedding cake-- miniature boxing gloves replacing
the traditional bride and groom cake topper. The pugilist motif
continued with boxing glove cufflinks, which were presented
to the men attendees as parting gifts, while the ladies carried
home silver compacts. The Honeymoon: The newlyweds remained in Jamaica for a week before hopping a plane to Belfast, Northern Ireland as production on the movie "Johnny Was" commenced. Lennox Lewis, who caught the acting bug while on the set of "Ocean's Eleven," plays the role of a Rastafarian DJ in the 2006 thriller, which co-stars Eriq La Salle, Samantha Mumba and Roger Daltrey, frontman of the rock band The Who.
