Wedding bells rang out on May 22, 2004 at Madrid’s Almudena Cathedral for Crown Prince Felipe of Spain and his bride, Letizia Ortiz. To mark the couple’s anniversary, Lovetripper takes a look back at a majestic moment in time:
Manuel Pertegaz, whose designs had once been donned by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and Audrey Hepburn, created a fairytale frock for Ortiz, who proudly placed upon her head before her walk down the aisle the platinum and diamond tiara worn by her soon-to-be mother-in-law Queen Sophia on her own wedding day.
Following the ceremony, a 1948 Rolls Royce Phantom IV bore the newlyweds to the Basilica of Antocha, where the new Princess of Asturias offered her bouquet to the statue of the Virgin Mary.
The happy couple waved to the crowd of well wishers from the balcony of the royal palace before embarking on a honeymoon tour of the Spanish countryside, including stops in the towns of Cuenca, Albarracin and Zaragoza.
