Who: "Showgirls"
actress Elizabeth Berkley and artist Greg Lauren
When: November 1, 2003
Where: Esperanza Resort in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico
Pre-wedding Festivities: Wanting to share their happiness
with those they love, the bride and groom invited one hundred
friends and family members to join them for a three day celebration
at Esperanza Resort, which was voted the top Mexico and Central
American resort by Travel and Leisure Magazine. Guests were
pampered with a variety of spa treatments, taught the seductive
art of salsa dancing, and treated to a viewing under the stars
of the romantic classic "Casablanca" on a movie screen
set up on the beach. Gift bags were filled with items to ensure
enjoyment of the relaxed surroundings, including flip-flops
and T-shirts commemorating the event, which were provided
by wedding coordinator to the stars, Mindy Weiss.
The Ceremony: Standing beneath a chuppah decorated with
garlands of orchids, hydrangeas and roses, the Hollywood couple
held hands as the rabbi performed a traditional Jewish wedding
ceremony. Friends, including "Flashdance" star Jennifer
Beals, watched the proceedings on comfortable sofas,
ottomans and chairs set up on the beach as the waves lapped
up on the shore and the sun began to sink into the Sea of Cortez.
The Dress: The entire wedding party was garbed in creations
by designer Ralph Lauren, the uncle of the groom. The bride's sun-bronzed
skin was emphasized by a pale lime silk sheath
dress accented with delicate pearl straps which criss-crossed
the gown's low cut back. The casual atmosphere was reflected
in the bride's loosely upswept hairdo.
An orchid bouquet
fashioned by Mark's Garden of Los Angeles harmonized with the
flowers adorning the chuppah.
The groom wore his relative's designs with pride, donning a
white tuxedo jacket, black bow tie and black trousers for
the occasion. Elizabeth's attendants were clothed in a
kaleidescope of tropical colors, creating a rainbow effect
as they stood beside the bride during the seaside ceremony.
First Dance: Known for her moves in the cult hit "Showgirls", it
was her love of dance which led the actress to the
man who would become her husband. The twosome, who met while
attending a dance class, took to the dance floor as the '80's
ballad "Crazy For You" played, before kicking up their
heels to "You're The One That I Want" from "Grease."
