From the opulent dresses to the reception excesses, millions of reality TV-watching romantics were glued to the tube when TLC debuted the hit UK series My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding, and soon the same network will air the nuptials of US gypsies and travelers in the upcoming series My Big Fat American Gypsy Wedding.
Lifting the veil on the secret world of gypsy culture, eight hour-log episodes will follow a bevy of brides on their walk down the aisle, including Nettie and JR, who missed out on a traditional traveler wedding when they wed in secret as adolescents– now the bride wants her vow renewal ceremony to be the “I do” of her dreams; and bride-to-be Tamara, an 18-year-old non-Gypsy who will marry into the traveler culture when she ties the knot with her 23-year-old beau, Bill.
The series will also take a look at other aspects of traveler life, including the courtships of US gypsies as 14-year-old Priscilla’s parents throw her a party in the hopes that she might find Mr. Right, and the baptism of travelers Chris and Amanda’s children, which takes place complete with a blinged-out Swarovski crystal pacifier.
TLC has yet to reveal the premiere date for My Big Fat American Gypsy Wedding, but the network has offered a glimpse at all the wedding day revelry in the following video:
