Combining a white wedding with a white Christmas, the holidays are high season for gypsy weddings, with couples from the culture making the trek each year with their families to an Irish town which holds a special place in the hearts of travelers.
A gift for wedding watchers from TLC, My Big Fat Gypsy Christmas is an hour-long special which invites viewers to the Noel-themed nuptials of a couple of traveling twosomes, including Lavinia and Edward.
Turning to Liverpool designer Thelma Madine– the proprietor of Nico’s Dressmakers– for her dream dress, Lavinia’s ceremony silhouette is an homage to extravagance complete with 20 underskirts.
The ceremony special also features the Christmas Day “I do” of bride Charlene, who will start out on the road of life with her husband in a gown created from a mile of material– that is, if the fairytale frock will fit in the limousine.
Along with watching the ceremonies of brides who will ring in the new year with a ring on their finger, viewers can also enjoy a glimpse at Gypsy-style holiday happenings, with the camera capturing moments which we all share with our families during the Christmas season.
TLC unveils My Big Fat Gypsy Christmas on December 18, 2011 at 8 P.M. ET. For a sneak peek, watch the following trailer, which aired prior to the special’s premiere in Australia:
