Bridal Shows and the Destination Bride

Bridal shows are a great way for brides to see the selection of wedding and reception venues, florists, bakers, photographers, and more in their local community.

But what if you are planning a destination wedding? Is it worth your time to attend a local bridal show?

In most cases, yes. Many shows will include exhibitors specializing in honeymoon travel, definitely a good option if you haven’t yet finalized your travel plans. Selecting a travel agent with a good background in your region of interest is a real plus

But you’ll also find that the more traditional vendors at bridal shows can also be of benefit in planning your destination wedding. You’ll find useful exhibitors in these areas:

Cakes. OK, you may not want to have a local baker ship a wedding cake to your destination wedding (although we have heard of it done!), you will get plenty of ideas to feed your cake fantasies. Look for the latest in cake fashions at these shows (and plan on trying a slice or two while you stroll the aisles!) Viewing a cake firsthand rather than in a bridal magazine or on a web site is a great way to get ideas for your own cake. Be sure to ask specific questions about the type of icing so you can check with your destination wedding planner to see if that cake style is a possibility for you.

Invitations. Invitation companies—both custom printed and do-it-yourself kits—exhibit at most bridal shows. Whether you’ll be sending invitations to your destination wedding or simply sending announcements and thank you cards after the fact, you’ll find printing companies to consider. Bridal shows give you a way to talk with many invitation companies in one afternoon and to gather samples (and even price quotes) as you shop.

Photographers. Some photographers will travel to destination weddings; if your budget permits, consider this option. You’ll be able to select a photographer based on his or her photographic style.

Bridal Gowns & Accessories. Bridal shows can be a great place to shop for gowns. Along with fun fashion shows, you’ll find displays of bridal gowns (often marked down from retail price). Many of the simpler gowns and bridesmaid gowns are perfect for the destination bride.

Best of all, bridal shows can help you catch the wedding spirit…a bonus that’s well worth the price of admission!
