Seeing Kenny Chesney in St. John

There's been a lot of TV promotion lately for Kenny Chesney's Wednesday special, "Moments in the Sun." The show was filmed this spring and summer on the US Virgin Island of St. John, Chesney's Caribbean home.

All the attention about the special reminded us of one of the most unique moments we had in 2005: a private Jimmy Buffett concert on St. John with a surprise guest...Kenny Chesney! The concert was being held as a corporate incentive; our group of travel writers was just tagging along at the invitation of the Westin St. John, where the event was held. We would be spending the next night at the Westin but, the night of the concert, came over by ferry just for the event.

The event had been billed as a Jimmy Buffett concert to the incentive group although there were whisperings that there would be a surprise guest.

Soon Alan Jackson showed up and surprised the group...only to be joined by Chesney, St. John's most famous resident, a few minutes later.

We've had a lot of special travel experiences this year but that event certainly had to be one of the most unique.
