continued from Romantic Vegas Hotels on the Strip The Mirage The first of Las Vegass theme hotels, The Mirage is still one of our favorites, tastefully done and magically enchanting. The hotel is best known for its amenities and stylish attractions. Out front stands the volcano, a pyrotechnic attraction that blows throughout the evening. Inside, the enchanting feel of the South Seas starts with a larger than life aquarium and continues with tropical rainforest, streams, birds, waterfalls, over 500 palm trees, orchids, a misting system, and more. You cant miss the 20,000-gallon aquarium at the front desk; its home to leopard shark, blacktip shark, puffer fish, and surgeonfish. Long the home of Siegfried and Roy's popular show, today the hotel remains the home of the Dolphin Habitat and the Secret Garden, where you'll find lions and tigers in a quiet oasis that seems far removed from the bustling Strip. The Mirage also has a large pool area and spa. Monte Carlo This 3002-room hotel is pure elegance, sporting a turn-of-the century decor. Even the standard rooms are elegant, with Italian marble touches and cherry furniture (a surprise when you look at the very reasonable mid-week prices!) The hotel has a shopping pavilion and is home to the Lance Burton magic show. The two of you can relax with treatments in the newly renovated spa or just hang out by the expansive pool, with its waterfalls and lazy river ride. New York-New York Ready for the Big Apple? Its all here at this theme resort that starts with a recreation of the Manhattan skyline (OK, theres a roller coaster buzzing around it, but still, its the skyline complete with a dozen skyscrapers). You can be one of the more than 10 million people who have crossed this citys version of the Brooklyn Bridge into this hotel. The bridge is one-fifth the size of the original and is the first replica of a US bridge on this scale. The hotel carries out its theme with everything from a casino with a theme of Central Park with a 150-foot replica of the Statue of Liberty, a replica of the Soldiers and Sailors Monument, and even a Coney Island-type rollercoaster, the Manhattan Express. For all its fun attractions, though, this is a casino hotel catering to adults, proven by its Zumanity show, an adults-only Cirque du Soleil show. New York-New York has very good midweek rates.
Paris Las Vegas This hotel brings the atmosphere of Paris to Las Vegas and is a romantic favorite. The hotel is filled with the feel of France, from its boutiques to its restaurants. Even if you're not staying here, a visit to the 50-story (half size) replica of the Eiffel Tower is a must for lovers. Theres a gourmet restaurant in the tower that's an excellent choice for a special dinner. Other landmark replicas here include Hotel de Ville and façades of the Paris Opera House and The Louvre. THEhotel at Mandalay Bay No, that's not a typo, that's the real name. A separate hotel within Mandalay Bay, THEhotel brings to Vegas its sophisticated sense of style that's sleek and completely themeless. (Personally, we like the theme hotels but to each his own.) ti (Treasure Island) You probably know this casino hotel as Treasure Island but today they prefer to just be called ti (yes, that's lower case ti as opposed to THEhotel above. Go figure.) Long known for its pirate theme, the hotel decided to go for a more adult image, changing their famous pirate battle out in front of the hotel to a teasing "sirens" show featuring scantily-clad sirens and rogue pirates. The very popular, free show takes place in front of the hotel several times a night; arrive early for this always-packed show. The seafaring theme surrounds the ship of the sirens in Sirens Cove, designed like an 18th century seaport village. Here you'll find the hotel's new nightclub, Tangerine's, known for its burlesque performances. See, we told you this wasn't for kids anymore! The Venetian According to Guinness Book of World Records, The Venetian has the largest hotel rooms in the world (even if they're not, they're far, far larger than those you'd enjoy in Venice). The standard guest rooms have 700 square feet of living space that includes everything from a marble foyer to an Italian marble bath. Room amenities include two 27-inch TVs, a mini bar, fax machine, three phones, a sofa that opens to a queen size bed, and more. This hotel is aimed at adults and has a quiet, romantic atmosphere with gondola rides, and a shopping promenade called The Grand Canal Shoppes which looks like a Venetian street at twilight. Italian opera singers perform and costumed characters like Casanova stroll through St. Mark's Square. The two of you can unwind with treatments at the Canyon Ranch SpaClub, dine at the restaurants which feature six James Beard Award-winning chefs (including Wolfgang Puck, Emeril Lagasse), or rock out at the new TAO nightclub where luminaries like Paris Hilton have been seen lately. Wynn Las Vegas Steve Wynn's latest creation is ultra-luxurious, with a no-expenses-spared atmosphere, from fine dining to elegant rooms. Personally, we thought it was a little boring (yes, it's very nice, but so are hotels all around the world) by Vegas standards. But hey, that's us. Related Pages:
