Trip from Las Vegas to Chloride Mining Town Want to visit a real
mining town? Then set your sights on Chloride, located about a
1-1/2 hour drive from downtown Las Vegas. This community, located
on the Nevada-Arizona border, is the oldest silver mining camp
in Arizona. Once a boomtown, today it is home to only a few hundred
residents who live in the foothills. Those foothills are home to murals created three decades ago by artist Roy Purcell. Older man-made artifacts remain here as well, ones recalling the towns heydays a century earlier in the 1860s. You can see the original jailhouse from those Wild West days; for a more complete picture of the towns early years you can visit a reconstructed Wild West town downtown. And watch out for those gunfighters; they test their skills on the first and third Saturday of every month. On a more romantic note, the town also celebrate Valentine's Day in a big way; come down to join in a town dance, dinner, and pie baking contest, always held the Saturday before Valentine's. Directions to Chloride: To reach Chloride, head east on Tropicana to I-515/US 93. Turn east on US 93 and continue to the Arizona border. For more information:
