The Beverly Hills Hotel, California:
Weddings
& Romantic Getaways
If
you're looking for a California location for your destination
wedding, honeymoon or romantic getaway, The Beverly Hills Hotel
just might be the place. The guest list of this elegant pink hideaway
reads like Hollywood's Who's Who and with good reason: it knows
how to pamper its guests.
Star-Studded
History:
Since its grand
opening in 1912, The Beverly Hills Hotel has been the heartbeat
of Hollywood, a silent witness to the parade of stars that have
lit up the silver screen over the years, from silent movie icons
Rudolph Valentino, Charlie Chaplin and Gloria Swanson to eternal
cinematic goddess Marilyn Monroe, who occupied bungalow 20 during
the production of the 1960 romantic romp "Let's Make Love."
The
grand dame of Sunset Boulevard, the so-called "Pink Palace"
is a star in its own right.
The three-story, pink stucco venue played a role in classics
such as "The Way We Were," "Shampoo," "California
Suite" and "American Gigolo," and its visage
graced the album cover of The Eagles' "Hotel California."
Where:
Situated on 12 palm-laden
acres, this Tinseltown landmark (which boasts a 5 star rating
from the Mobil Travel Guide) is located on Sunset Boulevard.
For
Active Couples:
After a rigorous
tennis lesson from a Wimbledon champion instructor on one of
the venue's two hard surface courts or a workout on the state
of the art exercise equipment available in the fitness center,
take a refreshing dip in the competition-sized swimming pool
before stretching out in one of the many hunter green and white
striped lounge chairs.
As you bronze your
skin in the California sunshine, slip on a pair of dark, oversized
shades to hide your furtive glances as you gaze at the A-list
celebrities mingling poolside or taking shelter from the sun's
rays in one of the 21 private cabanas, each furnished with a
television, phone and fax machine.
For those eager
for relaxation and rejuvenation, The Beverly Hills Hotel Spa
by La Prairie offers a wide range of theraputic treatments,
from a caviar firming facial to a couples massage.
Romantic
Dining:
Hollywood's elite
meet at The Polo Lounge, where multimillion dollar deals are
struck over the rhythm of a Jazz trio during Sunday brunch,
while The Cabana Club Cafe offers light lunchtime fare by the
pool.
As a musician tickles
the ivories of a piano in the corner, couples sip afternoon
tea in the Sunset Lounge, which is open daily, while patrons
sit on 1950's style pink barstools as they sample fruit smoothies
made at The Fountain Coffee Shop.
Weddings:
The Pink Palace
provides a regal backdrop for couples to say "I do"
beneath the shelter of an arbor in the Crystal Garden, a verdant
paradise overflowing with fragrant white blossoms.
As the ceremony
concludes, up to 500 guests can convene in the Crystal Ballroom,
the wedding reception site chosen by both Shaquille O'Neal,
who requested the room be bathed in purple, and Jenny McCarthy,
who along with event coordinator Colin Cowie gave the ballroom
a '50's nightclub ambiance.
The Rodeo Ballroom,
which boasts both a built in stage and dancefloor, has a capacity
for 300 people, and those who choose this room for a reception
are offered the use of the Polo Garden for the ceremony.
The Sunset Ballroom,
christened after the famous boulevard which runs past the hotel,
can hold 130-300 , while intimate gatherings of 20-60 guests
are held in the Polo Private Room.
