When to Visit

Weather in the Four Corners region varies from destination to destination, from desert temperatures in Phoenix to cool mountain climes in Colorado. In Phoenix, highs in June, July and August top 100 degrees, typically 105 in July. The busiest months are September through June, although during the summer season prices are typically 50 percent less than peak winter rates.

While the desert climes may be avoided by some couples during the summer months, other parts of the Four Corners region are peak destinations during those months. "The best time to visit Santa Fe, Taos and Ruidoso is from mid-May to the end of September," says Mary Ratchford of Albuquerque's SW Tours. "The average temperature during the day is a comfortable 85 degrees, dropping down to the 50s at night. The average temperature in Albuquerque during those months is 90 to 95, with very low humidity all year around."
