Enjoy Your Honeymoon! Five Tips for Brides to Stay Healthy through the Wedding

Honeymoon-coupleby Karen Katsirubas

Planning a wedding is exciting – and stressful. Brides can spend months, even years, planning their “big day,” with the honeymoon as the finish line. No bride envisions being rundown while celebrating wedded bliss with her new husband.  The stress and anxiety leading up to the wedding can lower her immune system — and who wants to get sick on their honeymoon?

So what can you, as a bride-to-be, do to get your immune system honeymoon-ready? Here are a few easy steps to help keep you healthy:

1.    Take a daily probiotic

One easy step (that won’t take any time away from wedding planning) is taking a daily probiotic.  There are two probiotic options, yeast or bacteria. The live microorganisms in a probiotic provide live and “good” bacteria or yeast cells to help support your immune system. This is essential because 70% of your immune system is located in your digestive system. By taking probiotics even a month before the honeymoon, you can keep your immune system in tip-top shape. This will not only keep you healthy through the stress of wedding planning, but will also help fight off germs while en route to your honeymoon. Bad bacteria can survive on airplanes for up to a week. Taking a daily probiotic will ensure you can fight those bugs off!

2.    Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!

Hydrating also helps support the immune system, so you’ll be more likely to fight off a cold. Drinking water also helps with clear skin, so you’ll be sure to look radiant in those sunset pictures!

3.    Choose healthy foods

In times of stress, it’s common to go for the quick and easy options: ordering takeout, frozen dinners, and so on. Instead, get your fruit and vegetable intake up, and choose snacks with protein to boost energy.  After all this healthy eating, you won’t feel bad about treating yourself on the honeymoon.

4.    Plan time to rest

It’s not uncommon to lay awake at night with wedding details racing through your mind, but lack of sleep can get the best of you. It’s important to set aside some time each week to relax with a book or get into bed early. Your honeymoon should be relaxing, of course, but you don’t want to be so burnt out that you miss out on activities!

5.    Carry hand sanitizer

This is YOUR wedding; so all those people are here to see you. That means hundreds of handshakes, hugs and kisses, and endless opportunities to catch something. If you’ve made it this far without getting sick, don’t let germs make their way in now! Sanitize or wash your hands any chance you get, because the honeymoon is just around the corner.
