By Rail, By Day, Into
the Canadian Rockies (Rocky Mountaineer) Like any comfortable
adventure, the rail tour into the Canadian Rockies begins gently,
providing plenty of time to get in the perfect mood. Vancouver's
Pacific Central Station offers just the right amount of nostalgia
as the "al-l-ll aboard!" echoes through the cavernous
waiting room.
Riding the Rails of Western Canada
(VIA, Rocky Mountaineer, BCRail) For this excursion, we would
be traveling across Canada by rail, from Winnipeg to Jasper to
Vancouver. It was a journey that had taken pioneers months but
one that we would enjoy in ten days with time to explore small
towns, national parks, and cultural cities, and, best of all,
just to sit back and enjoy the Canadian countryside while someone
else took over the driving.

Riding
the Rails through Mexico's Copper Canyon by Paris Permenter
& John Bigley Copper Canyon is a remote area in Mexico's Sierra
Madre mountains, located west of the town of Chihuahua. Most travelers
arrive here by train, on a railway than many once said could never
be built. With 86 tunnels and 37 bridges, construction of the
Chihuahua al Pacifico took nearly a century, traveling through
some of the most rugged terrain on the continent.

Glenn Miller's lilting song, Chattanooga Choo-Choo, has been a
classic railroad tune. And where else but Chattanooga, Tennessee,
can you see the engine, and, spend a night or more in one of the
cars of the train that inspired Miller's musical genius?

Eastern
and Oriental Express by Rowena Carr-Allinson The Orient Express
dates back to October 1883. By the 1920's the train was running
from Paris to Istanbul via Venice, through the Simplon Tunnel.
Those were the train's glory days. Decadence was the mot
du jour. Royalty and celebrities alike travelled in pure
luxury and opulence throughout Europe. And for us mere mortals,
it was the latest chic in honeymoons. And it still is.
