St. Croix: Shopping

Shopping in St. Croix means a trip to Christiansted or Frederiksted. Until recently, most shopping took place in Christiansted, the larger of the two communities, but as the cruise ship business has grown, Frederiksted is offering more duty-free shops aimed at those who have only a few hours to shop.

Jewelry is a popular purchase here and one of the most unique items is the "St. Croix Hook," developed by Sonya's Lts. (No. 1 Company Street). While we were selecting a bracelet, the clerk at Sonya's told us that "the Hook" is very popular among divers of both sexes. The bracelet features a simple hook clasp that gives a clue to the wearer's romantic status: if the hook is pointed down, it signifies the wearer is single, pointed up and turned toward the heart it symbolizes attachment.

For those looking to bring back a taste of St. Croix, Cruzan Rum
is sold throughout the island, as is Chococo, a chocolate and coconut liqueur made in St. Croix.
