TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO SHOPPING We wouldn't say this about most destinations, but some of the best shopping on Trinidad is actually found at Piarco International Airport. These duty-free shops tempt those departing with local liquor, electronics, watches, jewelry, and more. There's also a good selection of locally made items ranging from hot sauces to copper jewelry to tiny steel pans. Port of Spain is also home to several sprawling malls. Non-shoppers will love Tobago: it's tough to spend money on this island. The most colorful shopping is found in Scarborough's open-air market, where tropical fruits and vegetables explode in an artist's palatte of colors. Sample a few items (watch out for the fiery Scotch Bonnet peppers!) and buy a bottle of homemade hot sauce and packaged curry, some of the island's top buys. Foodies will find
plenty of gifts to bring home on either island. Coffee lovers
can take home Pong Wing Coffee; rum drinkers can check out Royal
Oak. Curry, saffron, and other spices are excellent buys at
the markets. |
