Through the magic of movies, viewers can not only vicariously live out romantic fantasies, they can also enjoy a virtual vacation wherever they please. In a Lovetripper poll, readers chose the following flicks as the most romantic cinematic sojourns of all time:

#1 Titanic-- Both the splendor and the sorrow of the doomed Whitestar liner are brought back to the surface through a fictionalized love story which continues to resonate with romantics.

#2 Somewhere In Time-- In the search for his soul mate, a contemporary playwright (portrayed by Christopher Reeve) finds himself in the presence of the past.

#4 Dirty Dancing-- Romantics still have the time of their lives with each viewing of this coming of age classic.

Although the waters of the Atlantic have acted as a shroud since the pre-dawn hours of April 15, 1912 for those lost during the maiden voyage of the RMS Titanic, the waves which silenced 1,517 souls still ripple like an echo of the past in the ocean, beckoning to all in the present to keep the memory of the splendor, sadness and sacrifice of that fateful day alive.

Years after its initial release, James Cameron's movie epic brought the heroism and heartbreak of actual events back to the surface with an intimate tale of two fictionalized lovers, whose story continue to touch the hearts of romantics who raised Titanic to the top of Lovetripper's most romantic travel movies of all time list.

Filming Locations

While most of the movie was filmed at Fox Baja Studios, scenes of a mature Rose recalling the past for a crew of treasure seekers searching for the Heart of The Ocean took place aboard the Akademik Mstislav Keldysk, a Russian scientific research vessel. Scenes in the engine room were shot aboard the S.S. Jeremiah O'Brien in San Francisco.

The plot involves various themes such as tragic and lost love, death,courage and sacrifice, dreams and undying memories of past...to put it briefly, all it takes to keep you glued to the screen throughout the movie. A pair of amazing actors ( Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet) bring to life two young souls, Rose and Jack, whose powerful romance echoes from a distant past.
What have I learnt? One should be free to pursue his dreams because you only have one life, you have to live it to the fullest;
death ends a relationship, but not love itself, as long as you keep the memories in your heart, love won't fade, but it will keep you warm through dark times.Just like Rose, life can makes us undergo traumatizing experiences, but as long as you're able
to get up after the fall, you know you won't be defeated, hope will guide your way. This is the inspirational message of the movie, one of the main reasons why I love it so much. Every detail is unique, I mean Kate and Leo's performances , I'm definitely struck by the their emotions, the haunting soundtrack is so special, I can actually "feel" the pain, the heartache of losing your love or celebrate life, like the cheerful tune at the third class party.The accurate recreation of the Edwardian era , the beautiful costumes, the recreation of the ship are fantastic, they prove without a doubt the hard work that's been invested into making the movie. Thanks to people like Leo, Kate and James Cameron, we all have this film to enjoy -TITANIC is a journey to eternity and also a voyage to the bottom of our own soul, to find there the inner power that makes our hearts go on. I have been into many other fandoms ever since, some came and go, but TITANIC has always remained no.1. Although unable to walk through life with his wife Holly (played by two-time Oscar winner Hilary Swank), Gerry's (Gerard Butler) epistles after his passing help to guide the woman he loves back on to the path of happiness in a heartwarming movie that leaves its viewers reaching for both a hanky and a hug from their own special someone.

Filming Locations

While most scenes were filmed in New York City, Holly's trip to her late husband's homeland provided romantics with views of the sweeping scenery of County Wicklow, including Enniskerry, Glendalough and Lacken Village. The director also yelled "Action!" at Whelans Pub, a watering hole whose musical acts have provided the heartbeat of Dublin's city center for the past two decades.

The reason I chose PSILY as the most romantic travel movie is because Holly's husband, Gerry, sent his wife and her friends to Ireland AFTER he had died. Prior to his death, he made sure that his wife was able to return to the place where they first met, go the places that were important to him so that she would be able to get over him and move on. It was a surprise to her months after his death. Instead of focusing on his death, Gerry chose to make preparations for his wife's comfort. I Love You showed the heart ache that a person goes through after the death of a love one and the trip that a person goes through not only in a trip way but in a emotional way to get over that pain. Dirty Dancing devotees who make a pilgrimage to Pembroke, Virginia to see the contemporary classic's sites can book a stay in the same Mountain Lake Hotel suite Swayze stayed in during filming-- room 232.

Cameras began to roll on September 5, 1986. The director yelled "That's a wrap!" the following month, on October 27th.

More than merely the providers of succulent spirits, the vineyards which blanket the Tuscan landscape are visual metaphors for life. Although left barren after each harvest, time will bring rebirth to the vines, and just as new leaves unfurl in the caring climate, so does heroine Frances Mayes, who finds herself experiencing an emotional reawakening in her new Tuscan surroundings which, like the grapes destined for bottles of wine, makes for a very good year.

Trivia

According to IMDB, the man heard crying in apartment adjacent to the leading lady's divorce digs is actor Matthew Laborteaux, a former star of the family favorite, Little House On The Prairie.

Already a star from its appearance in Under The Tuscan Sun, the main square in Montepulciano-- which echoed with the shouts of spectators as Pawel performed in a flag-throwing demonstration-- will share the big screen with the cast of New Moon when the supernatural love story premieres in November 2009.

Diane Lane's first acting experience at age 14 partially took place in Italy when cameras rolled on A Little Romance, which also starred Sir Laurence Olivier.

Frances and Mr. Martini wished each other "Buon Natale" at Piazza della Repubblica in the Tuscan town of Cortona, where much of the filming took place.

A cinematic Valentine for anyone who has ever wished that real life could mirror the magic of movies, this 1994 Nora Ephron-directed homage to the quick quips of tongue-in-cheek twosomes from Hollywood's Golden Era shows that, with hope in your heart, a love that is meant to be can span any distance in order to fulfill its destiny.

Filming Locations

Tiramisu may not be on the menu, but film-loving foodies can find an assortment of fresh seafood delights on the menu at the Athenian Inn, the Seattle restaurant and bar where Rob Reiner gives Tom Hanks a lecture on the do's and don'ts of dating in the 1990's.

Sam took his date out to dinner at a venue at 1904 4th Ave., which was known at the time as Dahlia Lounge (a restaurant still in business, although now at a new location.)

Although tourists may not actually be walking in the footsteps of Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks when they step on to the 86th floor observatory of the Empire State Building (the scene was filmed in a Seattle studio), just like many of the 110 million sightseers who have visited the Big Apple landmark since 1931, film buffs will find themselves in awe as they look out cityscape at, as said in An Affair To Remember is "the closest thing to heaven in the city."

Two women who pack their luggage for a Christmas season house swap find that their vacation from their romantic vexation lets them leave their emotional baggage behind in this tribute to the romantic comedies of Tinseltown's past.

Filming Locations

A touchstone of Hollywood history, Greystone Manor in Beverly Hills has been a silent witness to the real life weddings of actress Jaime King as well as that of movie legend Kirk Douglas, who renewed his vows to his bride of 50 years in 2004. A star in its own right, its regal facade has been seen on the big screen in Spider-Man, What Women Want, The Bodyguard and The Witches of Eastwick and on the small screen in Gilmore Girls. Its gardens provided a romantic backdrop for the vows of daytime drama's Luke and Laura on General Hospital in 1981, and in 2006 the landmark's interior was utilized for the lunch scene between Amanda (Cameron Diaz) and Graham (Jude Law) in The Holiday. Although its doors remain closed at most times, architectural aficionados can take a closer look at the 1920's landmark during one of several special events scheduled each year at the estate.

Also providing cinematic scenery for the romantic comedy was Church Street in the town of Godalming and the village of Shere in Surrey, England.

The gnarled branches of more than 20,000 olive trees seemed to block out any presence of the present as cast and crew traveled into the hills between Fiesole and Settigano to film several of Pensione Bertollini's interior scenes at Villa di Maiano. During a guided tour, a little imagination is all it takes for tourists to hear the vexed voice of Charlotte Bartlett as she complains about a room with no view in the dining area or Lucy Honeychurch's passionate piano playing in the sala della bambole, or dolls' room. In the novel Bid Time Return, upon which the romance classic Somewhere In Time is based, author Richard Matheson's main characters Richard Collier and Elise McKenna are not reunited at Mackinac Island's Grand Hotel, but rather at the Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego, California.

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of its 1959 premiere, the Some Like It Hot companion, written by Laurence Masion, is scheduled to hit book shelves in September 2009.

The first wedding was just a beautiful traditional attempt in a grand church with ice sculptures and formal dress. I am glad though that Fulcrum ruined it and Chuck gave his sister truly what she had dreamed of though with the beach ceremony. Just an absolutely gorgeous setup with the waves crashing in the background against magnificent boulders. The sun waning in the background painting a picture perfect painting in the sky as it set. It wasn't one great wedding - it was TWO great weddings! The first one was disrupted in a truly hysterical way. I mean, who wouldn't want a couple of nerds who work with their brother to perform "Mr. Roboto" at their wedding and then set off all the fire sprinklers in the church? The second wedding was gorgeous, and was all the more moving because of all the effort and money Chuck, Sarah, and Casey put into making sure it was everything Ellie wanted. It was also special because during the wedding there was a great progression in Chuck and Sarah's relationship, when she told Bryce she wanted to stay with Chuck.-- Grace

Beyond the joining of two hearts, the wedding of Dr. Michaela Quinn and Byron Sully marked a passing of the torch between the traditions of the past and a progressive future which was fast approaching.

While offering a nostalgic nod to age old conventions by carrying her forebearer's lace handkerchief as her "something old," Michaela's walk down the aisle with her mother was as unique for its time as the union into which she entered, and as the wheels of the horse drawn carriage which leisurely escorted the newlyweds from their wedding site conceded to the locomotive rails which whisked the pair off on their honeymoon, the steam engine's whistle seemed to be saying farewell to an era which would soon be only a sweet, sepia-toned memory.

I will shout it to the heavens... Sully and Michaela's wedding on DQMW is still my most favorite wedding, ever! I loved the feel of magic in the air. No two other characters have shown so much love for each other. Their romance is what drew me to the show when it first aired. The chemistry between the actors Joe Lando and Jane Seymour was undeniable. This particular episode started off with real bride/groom situations that come up, as well as some unique situations that only Sully and Michaela would be in. The groom was so handsome in his wedding attire as was the bride in her gorgeous dress and veil. The feel of support from each town member and family members was felt right through the tv screen. I grinned ear to ear just like Brian did. I sighed just like Mrs. Quinn did. It was a moving ceremony. But it did not end there. The reception was funny and moving at the same time. And the final moments on the train car were quite steamy and again I sighed. Just beautiful.-- Penni

It represented the culmination of everything the couple had endured in almost four years they knew each other. Despite pressure from friends and loved ones to alter their plans, they settled back on what they wanted and found a nice compromise to blend their individual desires. It also demonstrated how deep love is to bring a loner man back from grieving the loss of his first wife and a lonely woman who had found acceptance and purpose in her love for her soon-to-be husband.

This couple had sparks flying on the screen and the looks they shared could melt the TV set. They knocked heads on various issues, as do all couples, but the important thing is they agreed on what was important and managed to always find a compromise that showcased the depth of their love.

In today's society when love is treated so carelessly, or sex is used as bribe for love, this couple's purity is a refreshing reminder that love is about far more than sex and the physical. In the episode, she actually designs the dress herself, because she doesn't want to hurt neither her mother, nor her local friends, who have both paid a lot (her mum) or worked very hard (the locals) so Michaela decides to keep both by using 1 half of each. The final result is simply the best wedding dress ever made: very "sexy" on top, and very "classical" on the lower half, with many yards of train. For three seasons we watched them struggle as individuals and as a couple overcoming some outrageous obstacles and grow closer and closer. What makes this an AWESOME TV wedding was that it almost wasn't made. I'm one of those people who don't like fictional weddings so much because I think that a wedding is something a bit too serious and "sacred" so in TV shows and movies they, most of the time, seem so fake to me, so damn cheesy. For this reason my favorite wedding is the one between Max and Liz from Roswell. It was the end of the whole show; it was only a scene, the memory written in the same journal that started the series. It was very simple and sweet not to mention that it was an intimate and unconventional wedding yet very sweet, romantic and meaningful. It was unconventional because what they were wearing wasn't so classic like normal weddings (I love her dress. She was beautiful, so free, so simple) but it did fit with their young age and how the most important thing there wasn't "the wedding show" but the simple fact that they loved each and they had won against everything that tried to keep them apart. They were together, they had their real friends with them... they didn't need nothing more than this. It was a sweet happy end that they deserved so much. Surely enough they were on the run so their life wasn't supposed to be simple and without problems... but that end gave you so much hope. It was telling us that no matter what everything is gonna be okay because they are together and happy and in love and this is the most important thing, this is worth all the sacrifices they were making. This is real.

It was the perfect closure of a series that started with them being forbidden and looking at each other with so many hopes and ended with them looking at each other as husband and wife hopeful, happy, peaceful.. putting behind them 3 years full of
obstacles that they had to face but they won against them all even death.

The lyrics of the beloved family drama's theme music proved prophetic in the show's 150th episode, as Lucy Camden-- walking on cloud nine as she ventured down the aisle-- said "I do" to the man in whose heart she had made her home, Kevin Kinkirk. Professing their devotion at the pulpit of Reverend Camden's church, there was no greater feeling than the love of family as this TV twosome were pronounced husband and wife.

As middle daughter Lucy Camden, actress Beverley Mitchell walked down the aisle in a design from Diamond Bride.

The locket Lucy wore on her wedding day was her "something old."

Although the planets seem to align for those lucky in love, for President of Meade publications Daniel Meade and shy school teacher Molly the universe seemed determined to defy their happily ever after. Finally together after a resolution of their relationship issues (as Molly was engaged to Daniel's friend) the couple's path only led them to an obstacle that even their love could not overcome.

In an episode that tempered heartache with humor, Daniel and Molly decided to face fate as husband and wife, enjoying their "moment in the sun" at an ironically appropriate venue for star-crossed lovers-- a planetarium.

While providing the back beat for their group Hep Alien, Star Hollows resident, hesitant nonconformist Lane Kim came to realize that guitarist Zach Van Gerbig made her heart skip a beat. The platonic roommates' transformation from band mates to soul mates culminated in a couple of weddings-- a Buddhist ceremony to appease a family member and a traditional stroll down the aisle in which the bride walked the line between conservatism and cutting edge with an updated version of her mother's wedding dress. A rockin' reception complete with the newlyweds' performance of "I'm A Believer" left viewers with a feeling as warm as a cup of coffee from Luke's Diner.

Through the simple act of turning on their television sets, viewers invite the characters that inhabit each series into their lives, and on rare occasions those characters can begin to feel like family. Such was the case with the Cunningham clan, who shared the Happy Days of the 1950's and early 1960's with their TV audience for 11 seasons.

Over the passage of time, we witnessed Joanie Cunningham's (Erin Moran) transformation from "Shortcake" to soul mate for Fonzie's cousin Charles "Chachi" Arcola (Scott Baio), and on the 1984 series finale their walk down the aisle was a walk down memory lane for the show's fans.

Always the bridesmaid, never the bride Jane Nichols, however, has a wardrobe full of wedding day memories-- each garment symbolizing both another couple's happiness and her eternal hope that someday, as she caters to each bride's whim to make their I do's a dream (even that of her sister, who is marrying the man she carries a torch for), she will find someone who is tailor made for her.

This movie epitomizes my own life. I once was a caterer, and bent over backwards to make sure everyone else's wedding reception was "to die for." Yet, I've had so many disappointments in my own love life, so many that you could write a country-western song that would "just make you cry." I have a younger sister who has expected me to dote over her for all of her life, and she has caused me a ton of grief -- enough that you could write yet another tear-jerking western song. I hooked up my sister with her husband, and he has an enviable job in the limelight, and I haven't gotten the credit I deserve for setting my sister up with such a fantastic guy.
