“It’s an ideal spot for any couple looking for a place where they can spend their honeymoon”, my colleague who had just spent a week in Acapulco’s Las Brisas Hotel, remarked when I asked him about that renowned abode located in one of Mexico’s top resorts.

Sometime later when I came across a couple who had spent their honeymoon in this celebrated hotel and were singing its praises, I thought that I must see for myself one of Acapulco’s most colourful abodes.

Now as I stood on one of Acapulco’s hillsides where the sprawling Las Brisas luxury hotel complex stands in the midst of flowering hibiscus and colourful pinkish structures and gazed at the deep colours of the sea below contrasting with the vibrant hues of the surrounding tropical vegetation, I could see why people rave about this hotel.  At sunset, the colourful flowers and structures enhanced by the view of Acapulco Bay created a postcard picture that was overpowering.

Hidden away amid 17 ha (40 ac) overflowing with a floral landscape, Las Brisas Acapulco, a part of the Brisas and Resorts Group, is one of the most exclusive and romantic destinations in the world.  The development of the area has turned a hillside into a luxurious architectural rose-coloured gem, gleaming as a crown jewel of one of Mexico’s leading resorts.

The resort is made-up of 32 master and junior suites and 231 individual bungalow-like private cabins, called casitas, in Spanish meaning ‘little houses’.  Like large fat mushrooms clinging to the mountainside, the casitas have, in addition to their pools - some private, others semi-private, balconies overlooking the Pacific Ocean and the Acapulco Bay.  They are built in such a way that one cannot see what the neighbours are doing.  Each casita is like a private home, but with its own surroundings and view, even better than most homes.

What gives these casitas an aura of enchantment are their pink-white colour overwhelmed with flowers, which are everywhere – in the rooms, on the balconies, by the pools and in the bathrooms.  I was amazed when I walked into Bellavista’s, Las Brisas main restaurant, to see rose and hibiscus blossoms everywhere.  It seemed that even in the bathroom I had entered into a world of charming tenderness.

Visitors are usually enthralled when sitting around a small table, shaded by a pink Arabian Nights canopy, by their own secluded swimming pool as they watch hibiscus blossoms floating gently in their casidas’ pool and the panorama of the luscious tropical vegetation foliage cascading down the hill toward the Bay.  In the words of a table companion in Bellavista Restaurant, “Las Brisas and flowers are synonymous.”

And, if this appeal of Las Brisas is not enough, every morning guests receive a complimentary breakfast delivered quietly to a compartment edging their front door and if guests are looking for other activities, pink and white jeeps will whisk them from the lobby of the hotel to La Concho Beach Club, the only private beach in Mexico, or to any other of the hotel’s facilities.

On the other hand, guests can rent the same jeeps to go and play golf at one of Acapulco’s five golf clubs; dine in one of the city’s many world class restaurants or dance the night away in one of the countless chic nightclubs; watch the famous cliff divers at La Quebrada perform the 32 m (100 ft) dangerous dive; and visit the Zocalo, the historic heart of Acapulco or any other of the city’s spectacular sites.

As I dined in Bellavista, Las Brisas’s fine restaurant, world-renowned for its gourmet international cuisine, enjoying the food and the breath-taking view of Acapulco Bay, I thought what a perfect place for honeymooners.   Unrivalled in its romantic setting, Las Brisas exudes a sense of secluded elegance.  In sophistication, glamour and colour it is hard to find a resort more tuned to the needs and feelings of honeymooning couples - a million miles away from the world and its tribulations.

Here, couples who spend their first loving days will no doubt, thereafter, always quash their quarrels when they remember their start of wedded bliss amid the hibiscus in the hillside paradise of Las Brisas – an oasis of luxury with an idyllic setting.
