April 2005
Spring is in the air, and love is in full bloom between Tinseltown's
top twosome. Poolside PDA was reported between "The O.C."'s
Mischa Barton and boyfriend Brandon Davis at the
Bacara Resort and Spa, the Santa Barbara retreat where Travis
Barker of Blink-182 and his wife, former Miss USA Shanna Moakler,
were wed in 2004.
Actor Robert Downey Jr., who will soon walk down the
aisle with fiancee Susan Levin, enjoyed a romantic escape recently
at the newly renovated Parker Palm Springs hotel, a Southern
California hotspot steeped in Hollywood history.
Latin heartthrob Antonio Banderas shared his childhood
memories with wife Melanie Griffith and daughter Stella
on a trip home to the port city of Malaga, Spain, where the
close knit family watched a parade to announce the commencement
of Holy Week.
"Million Dollar Baby" Hilary Swank can afford
to take a break from the spotlight after her knockout win at
the Academy Awards. Days after the Oscar telecast, the actress
cast aside her Guy LaRoche gown for more casual fare as she
and husband Chad Lowe soaked up the sun in Puerto Vallarta,
Mexico. The adventurous couple later boarded a boat headed to
the secluded fishing village of Yelapa, where the actors rented
a bungalow near white sand beaches and a scenic waterfall.
The rumor that Paris Hilton has accepted Greek shipping
heir Paris Latsis' Valentine's Day proposal has yet to be confirmed,
but the pair continue to add fuel to the fire with an amorous
excursion to Aruba, where the couple stayed at the Radisson
Aruba Resort and Casino. Later in the month the "Simple
Life" star jetted to Mexico City with the hope of visiting
the pyramids.
Australian beauty Rachel Hunter celebrated the change
of seasons with a horseback ride through London's Hyde Park,
which is awash in a sea of cherry blossoms this time of year.
Several of television's top stars celebrated birthdays in March.
Eva Longoria greeted the Big 3-0 in style with a coterie
of companions at the One & Only Palmilla resort in Los Cabos,
Mexico, (a venue featured on "Newlyweds") where the
"Desperate Housewives" star enjoyed three sun-soaked
days. Meanwhile, actress Sarah Jessica Parker blew out
forty candles at The Plaza, with husband Matthew Broderick
at her side. Star Jones Reynolds, who held her lavish
wedding reception at The Plaza in 2004, was also serenaded with
a round of "Happy Birthday To You" by her husband
Al Reynolds as well as basketball legend Shaquille O'Neal
at the former Miami Beach, Florida home of Gianni Versace, which
is known today as Casa Casuarina.
Every March Hollywood's A-list flock to Austin, Texas for SXSW,
which offers the best in independent filmmaking and music. Mingling
in the throng this year was actor Elijah Wood, who took
over as the DJ of the evening at the popular music venue Maggie
Mae's and was later spotted sampling Tex-Mex cuisine at Guerro's.
Fellow Hobbit Dominic Monaghan, still sporting a Hawaiian
tan from his first season on "Lost", was also in town
promoting his indie flick, "Shooting Livien". Texas
native Jessica Simpson, in the capital city to record
tracks for the "Dukes of Hazzard" soundtrack, spent
an evening at The Old Austin Airport for the DKNY Jeans/ CAP
CSC Late Night Party, and "Joey" star Drea de Matteo
and her boyfriend Shooter Jennings were also seen enjoying the
events at the two week festival.
Now Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles are
husband and wife, but while preparations for the royal nuptials
were underway the future king of England continued his official
duties, visiting New Zealand's capital of Wellington, where
he received a traditional "hongi" welcome from a group
of Maori warriors.
Serena and Venus Williams may not have been able to bring
home a trophy from the 2005 Dubai Tennis Championships, but
a temporary henna tattoo and a camel ride in the shadow of the
Buriz Al Arab hotel are memories that will last a lifetime.
While some celebrities are enjoying leisurely pursuits this
spring, others are hard at work on film shoots around the globe.
Find out where your favorite silver screen stars are this month:
Swashbuckling sex symbol Orlando Bloom, said to be so
enamored with the tropical locales used in the sequels to the
runaway hit "Pirates of The Caribbean" that he reportedly
is hoping to buy property in the Caribbean's exclusive Emerald
Isles region, has signed on with co-stars Keira Knightley
and Johnny Depp for a real life adventure on the high
seas. Once filming of the action-packed movie is complete, the
trio will board the aptly christened "Black Pearl"
in an around the world Volvo Ocean Race in November 2005. Each
star will embark on a section of the journey, with Johnny Depp
setting sail in the US and Brazil, Keira Knightley taking on
the European trek of the voyage, and Orlando testing the waters
in South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand.
Orlando's "Lord
of The Rings" co-star Viggo Mortensen has transformed
himself into the 17th century Spanish hero Alatriste in the
movie of the same name, which is presently filming in Madrid,
Talamanca and the Jabalquinto Palace in Baeza, Jaen, Andalucia.
Kirsten Dunst currently reigns supreme in Paris, where
the actress is portraying France's former monarch in the epic
costume drama "Marie Antoinette," headed for the big
screen in 2006.
Part-time Austinite Sandra Bullock doesn't have to travel
far to film her scenes in the upcoming "Every Word Is True,"
in which she plays "To Kill A Mockingbird" author
Harper Lee. The movie is currently shooting in both the capital
of Texas and in the nearby small town of Tyler.
