Niagara
Falls
For all the attractions in this region, there's no denying that the real attraction here are the falls themselves. Actually the falls aren't one attraction, but three:
To best view American and Bridal Veil Falls up close, you'll want to go to the American side and visit Niagara Falls State Park that lies between Bridal Veil and Horseshoe Falls. To view Horseshoe Falls closeup, you'll want to go to Table Rock Visitors Center on the Canadian side.
The best view of all the falls is from the Canadian side of the river, from the river itself aboard a Maid of the Mist cruise, or from the air (helicopter tours are available from both the US and Canadian sides plus there's also a tethered helium balloon ride from the US side.) You can also don a raincoat and go to the foot of the falls, either on the Cave of the Winds tour (American side) or the Journey Behind the Falls (Canadian side). Downriver, the water's force is seen in some of the world's wildest rapids. Both sides of the river have walking paths to view this natural phenomenon. The water works its way from the falls to Lake Ontario, passing the community of Niagara-on-the-Lake on the way, a town that's often called the prettiest in Canada.
