Borat Does Bangkok
A few weeks before walking down the red carpet at the Golden Globes, comedian
Sacha Baron Cohen ("Borat") and his fiancée
Isla Fisher strolled through the lobby of the Oriental Hotel in Bangkok.
Greeting guests from around the world for over 130 years, this architectural
treasure of Thailand has nine dining experiences showcasing gourmet delights
from around the globe, from French fare to English afternoon tea. Following
a workout on one of two tennis courts or the squash court, patrons can
achieve harmony between mind and spirit at The Oriental Spa, where an
array of Ayurvedic therapies are administered.
Luminaries in London
After an evening spent promoting "Blood Diamond" in London,
Academy Award nominee Leonardo DiCaprio was greeted by a doorman
in a top hat as he entered the Berkeley Hotel, a 214-room, 5-star sanctuary
which offers its guests a view of Hyde Park.
Globe-trotting rock god Gene Simmons made
a pilgrimage to The Beatles Abbey Road studios recently. Like so many
tourists before him, the KISS bassist and his family posed like the Fab
Four as they strolled across the crosswalk outside the studio.
Claridge's, the 5-star hotel which Empress Eugenie
of France once considered her winter abode, opened its doors for Hollywood
royalty recently when Drew Barrymore flew to London to promote
her latest romantic comedy, "Music and Lyrics."
According to the Chinese Zodiac, 2007 is the Year of the Pig. In late
January Duran Duran keyboardist Nick Rhodes, Bryan Ferry, Don
Johnson, Faye Dunaway, Ivana Trump and David Gest, the former
husband of legend Liza
Minnelli, were among those to celebrate the changing Chinese calendar
at a party held at Madame Tussaud's in London. Available for stylish soirees,
guests can mingle with a wax figure of the monarch and the rest of the
royal family in the World Stage room, or dance the night away to Dolby
sound in the Stardome.
Stars in Australia
Wentworth Miller is back on the set of "Prison Break"
after a holiday jaunt to The Land Down Under, where the TV heartthrob
was seen on a cruise of Sydney Harbour and perusing the decidedly American
menu at Pancakes on the Rocks. Fans of the actor's FOX series living in
the Dallas, Texas area were lucky enough to catch a glimpse of several
stars as an upcoming scene was recently filmed on the grounds of the Hotel
St. Germain, a three-story, turn of the century boutique bed and breakfast.
Before braving the cold at the Sundance Film Festival,
blonde beauty Tara Reid enjoyed a mid-January Gold Coast getaway
which included excursions to Sea World and Conrad Jupiters Casino. The
"American Pie" star unpacked her luggage at the Surfers Paradise
Marriott Resort and Spa, a five Michelin star sanctuary with 330 guestrooms
on 28 floors which look out upon a salt water lagoon.
Hurley in India
Thoughts of her upcoming wedding to Arun Nayar surely ran through the
mind of top model Elizabeth Hurley as she posed for the camera
in a series of fashion shots at several of Udaipur's upper crust hotels
in late December. Following a photo shoot at the Devi Gahr Fort Palace
Hotel, the 18th century edifice where the top model will reportedly say
"I do" in March, the Estee Lauder spokesmodel returned to her
suite at The Oberoi Udaivilas, an 87-guestroom palace hotel which offers
marble bathrooms, luxury suites enhanced with infinity pools, and its
own in-house yogi for a transcendental traveling experience.
