Jan. 2007 -- Since opening its doors in 1913, The Grande
Colonial Hotel in La Jolla, California has played host to a number of
celebrities, including such stars of Hollywood's Golden Era as Charleton
Heston, Groucho Marx and Jane Wyatt. On December 27, 2006 the 75 guestroom
retreat welcomed supermodel Niki Taylor and NASCAR driver Burney Lamar
as the couple arrived on the most momentous day of their lives-- the
day they were joined in holy matrimony in the presence of 60 of their
closest friends and family members. The bride, who today is a co-proprietress
of Abbie & Jessie's clothing boutique in Franklin, Tennessee, donned
an ivory Vera Wang creation for the occasion.
During the reception, the wedding band which had been
placed next to the bride's 2-carat oval diamond engagement ring sparkled
on the model's finger as she took to the dance floor with her new husband
and swayed to the beat of "Better Together" by Jack Johnson
from his 2005 CD "In Between Dreams." Meanwhile, guests feasted
on main courses of steak and lobster served with squash soup and potato
gnocchi before leaving with a gift bag containing items which reminded
the couple of of Tennessee, the state which the lovebirds call home.
Couples planning their own wedding reception at The Grande
Colonial Hotel have a number of areas from which to choose. Guests are
bathed in a golden glow from a skylight in the Sun room, which accommodates
up to 90 people. The tinkle of a grand piano can echo in the La Jolla
room as up to 70 guests dine beneath the glitter of chandeliers that
dangle from 13-foot ceilings. Intimate gatherings of 30 or less can
enjoy a view of the Pacific Ocean as they look out from French paned
windows in the Parlor room, and a panoramic vision of La Jolla can be
surveyed by 80 attendees on the Grande Terrace.
