June 2006 -- Stepping
inside the Cardinal Cerretti Memorial Chapel, actress Nicole
Kidman clutched as bouquet of white roses as she walked in Christian
Louboutin shoes down an aisle illuminated by candles. Each small
halo of light guided her toward her intended, country singer
Keith Urban, who waited at the altar to make the star his wife.
The bride, wearing
an ivory Balenciaga gown reminiscent of the romance of the Regency
era with its empire waist and puffed sleeve, peered through
a silk tulle veil as she declared her devotion in a 90-minute
ceremony. The event concluded with the peel of church bells
heralding the news of their union to the city of Sydney, Australia.
Following the evening
nuptials, which has included a reading by "Moulin Rouge"
director Baz Luhrmann, the newlyweds and their 230 guests gathered
beneath a white marquee erected on the chapel grounds for a
reception. Russell Crowe, Hugh Jackman and Naomi Watts nibbled
on tuna on cucumber canapes and pumpkin ravioli before dining
on a choice of beef or Tasmanian salmon prepared by chef Luke
Mangan, followed by mascarpone cake and slices of a three-tier
wedding cake produced by Sweet Art Bakery.
As family and friends
reminisced about the ceremony at tables adorned with arrangements
of red roses, orchids, hibiscus and japonica by Saskia Havekes
of Grandiflora florists, the newlyweds took to the dance floor
to sway to the romantic classic, "At Last."
As the festivities
wound to a close, guests were presented with engraved Tiffany
clocks as a reminder of the time they spent together on June
25, 2006, celebrating love.
