December 31,
2005 -- Illuminated by small halos of light cast by the votive
candles held in the hands of their family and friends, Olympic
gold medal skaters Jamie Sale and David Pelletier declared their
eternal devotion to each other during a 30-minute evening ceremony
in the regal ambiance the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel's Mt.
Stephen Hall.
Over 100 guests,
including such luminaries of the skating world as Kurt Browning,
Brian Orser and Yuka Sato sat upon white satin covered chairs
situated beneath chandeliers adorned with snowflake ornaments
as they listened to the couple express their love with self-penned
vows which the bride recited in French, the groom in English.
Before convening
to the reception hall, where tables decorated with centerpieces
spilling over with dendrobium orchids, spider mums and a generous
sprinkling of red berries awaited them, guests were entertained
with a jazz trio's performance of the Norah Jones ballad "Come
Away With Me" while the newly wed couple signed the wedding
register.
Like her skating
contemporaries Ekaterina Gordeeva and Nancy Kerrigan, Jamie
Sale has dazzled audiences around the globe in skating costumes
by Jeff Billings, and for her wedding day the bride turned to
the designer to create a showstopping ivory silk gown with illusion
accents. For added
touches of glamour, the performer donned a fake fur wrap and
a dainty tiara which nestled beneath her curled tresses, gathered
together loosely atop her head.
