Elton
John Weds in England
December 2005 --
Elton John and his love of the past 12 years, Canadian filmmaker
David Furnish, ushered in a new era on December 21, 2005 as
a black Rolls Royce escorted the pair through the streets of
Windsor toward Guildhall. As with the wedding of Prince
Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles, who exchanged vows at
the same venue in April 2005, well-wishers were lined up to
catch a glimpse of the pop royal and his paramour before they
stepped inside the 17th century edifice for a brief, yet history-making,
ceremony which was witnessed by 30 guests.
Forty-five minutes
later the newlyweds exited Guildhall to the roar of the crowd,
which they acknowledged by waving hands now graced with wide
wedding bands embellished with 31 carats of yellow diamonds.
Although the couple had traded in the flamboyant blue outfit
and sequin-encrusted suits worn to their stag party on December
19th for dapper black morning suits, in remembrance of his signature
look Elton sported lavender-tinted glasses that sheltered his
eyes from the noon glare as he returned to the Rolls Royce,
which drove the newlyweds to a private lunch in honor of the
singer's mother and David's parents, who had supported their
sons relationship over the years.
At their home,
seven hundred guests, including Victoria Beckham and Elizabeth
Hurley, waited for the beginning of a lavish, $1.75 million
dollar reception held inside two marquees which had been decorated
with floral masterpieces from Rob Van Helden.
