star Zayed Khan and Malaika Parekh
When: November
20, 2005
Where: After
a 10-year courtship, the couple were pronounced husband and
wife at a shaadi held at the Grand Maratha Sheraton in Mumbai,
India.
Pre-wedding Festivities:
The brightest stars of Bollywood's silver screen gathered
at the Grand Maratha a day prior to the wedding for a sangeet,
a celebration filled with song (the evening began with the rousing
number "Chalak Chalak" from the cinematic feature
"Devdaas") and comedy skits.
The Ceremony:
Aishwarya Rai, seen in Bride and Prejudice, a reinterpretation
of the Jane Austen classic, and actor Fardeen Khan, who is to
follow in his cousin's footsteps by marrying his love on December
16, 2005, were among the 1,500 to receive invitations to the
shaadi.
The Dress:
Adorned in jewelry created by Farah Khan, her new sister-in-law,
the bride recited her vows in a vivid green lehenga choli by
designer Adarsh Gill, whose fashions have been worn by the Queen
of England and Barbra Streisand.
The groom chose
a traditional sherwani, a white, knee-length coat embossed with
crystals and diamonds by Shahab Durazi.
The Reception:
Guests congregated in the ballroom of the Grand Hyatt for
a wedding feast featuring 58 food choices, including kebabs,
Afghani chicken, and ghosht dum biryani, along with a five-tier
wedding cake. Later, a more intimate family gathering took place
at the Golden Palms Resort and Spa in Bangalore.
The Honeymoon:
As the groom was required to return to the set of his latest
movie, the newlyweds were only allowed a short, three-day honeymoon.
When their schedules permit, the couple plan on an extended
trip to Europe in 2006.
