Dutch
Prince Weds in Church Ceremony
October 22, 2005--Two
days after becoming husband and wife in
a civil ceremony, the Dutch Prince Floris van Vollenhoven
and Aimee Sohngen sanctified their love with a religious service
held at Grote Kerk, a 15th century house of worship in the city
of Naarden. Here a joyfully teary-eyed bride and groom recited
their vows beneath a vaulted ceiling adorned with murals depicting
scenes from the Old and New Testaments.
Wearing wreaths
of blossoms on their heads, three cherubic flower girls in ballerina-length
white dresses fashioned with Peter Pan collars sprinkled rose
petals along a red carpet as the newly wed couple exited the
church.
Clutching a bouquet
of pale yellow roses, the bride was the picture of elegance
in a classically understated white gown created by Dutch designer
Lily de Jood. The groom opted for a somber-colored morning jacket
and grey pin-striped trousers, which he paired with an orange
vest and bright red tie, giving the ensemble a jubilant splash
of color. Two attendants in orange blouses with cowl necklines
combined with black floor-length skirts held on to the bride's
cathedral length train and pearl-studded veil as official photographs
were taken outside the cathedral.
