Sandals Foundation Launches Haiti Relief Fund
We've just received this word from Sandals Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Sandals Resorts International. Sandals Foundation has launched the Haiti Relief Fund to help their neighbors in Haiti:
Jamaica Prime Minister, Hon. Bruce Golding (second from left) Addresses Lt. Col. Jamie Ogilvie (far right), Alongside Leader of the Opposition Hon. Portia Simpson-Miller (far left) and Information Minister Hon. Daryl Vaz (third from left) Prior to Boarding Sandals Resorts International’s Private Jet Which Arrived in Haiti on January 15MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica, January 15, 2010 – The Sandals Foundation, the Jamaica-based philanthropic arm of Caribbean resort company Sandals Resorts International (SRI), has mounted a Haiti Relief Fund to deliver swift support to two non-profit organizations – the Salesian Missions and Popular Services International (PSI) – in urgent need of immediate assistance. Salesian Missions and PSI have more than 100 years of combined experience and presence in Haiti and a taskforce comprised of hundreds of workers and volunteers.
In an effort to streamline donations to both organizations, The Sandals Foundation is tapping into SRI’s network of more than 10,000 employees – as well its resort portfolio which stretches across five Caribbean islands – offering staff, resort guests and all who wish to get involved the opportunity to donate to the Haiti Relief Fund. Monetary donations can be made on-property at any Sandals Resort, Beaches Resort, Royal Plantation Resort or Grand Pineapple Beach Resort or online by visiting
www.SandalsFoundation.org. Checks can also be mailed to: The Sandals Foundation / Haiti Relief Fund, 4950 SW 72nd Avenue, Miami, FL 33155.
Since 1936, Salesian Missions has not only operated schools for thousands of students in Port-au-Prince, but also provided a wide range of services to 25,000 of Haiti’s poorest children. Currently, Salesian and missionary workers, and at least 500 students are believed to be buried in the rubble of the complex that houses the “National School of Arts and Trades” and other schools operated by Salesian Missions. Funds raised will go to purchase emergency relief kits, food, tents, bottled water, clothing, medical items and satellite telephones to re-establish communications.
Popular Services International is mobilizing support for the millions of Haitians affected by the catastrophic earthquake. Funds will help PSI and its partners provide life-saving products to clean and sanitize local water supplies along with general humanitarian relief for earthquake victims as they transition from basic survival to recovery.
“The events that took place in Haiti this week are unspeakable. As a member of the Caribbean community and a neighbor with the means to help, we are drawing upon every possible resource to deliver immediate action and much-needed relief to Haiti,” said Adam Stewart, CEO of The Sandals Foundation. “We are working closely with organizations on the ground, which are providing real-time care and support to all impacted by this devastating earthquake.”
The Sandals Foundation, in partnership with the Jamaica Hotel & Tourism Association, has additionally facilitated the donation of supplies such as linens, clothing and non-perishable items to The Red Cross and Salvation Army by establishing drop-off locations throughout Jamaica.
This week, SRI offered its private jet to Jamaica Prime Minister, Hon. Bruce Golding, which landed in Port-Au-Prince on January 15 along with supplies, to aid in the mobilization and dispatch of the Jamaica Defense Force in Haiti. In the weeks and months ahead, additional SRI jet service will be donated to transport resources and supplies to Haiti as needed. For more information, visit www.SandalsFoundation.org.
The Sandals Foundation
The Sandals Foundation, a 501c3 nonprofit organization, is the philanthropic arm of Sandals Resorts International. It is the culmination of three decades of dedication to playing a meaningful role in the lives of the communities where we operate across the Caribbean. The Sandals Foundation funds projects in the Caribbean in three core areas: education, community and the environment. For more information, go to www.SandalsFoundation.org.
