10102007: Sir Richard Branson Performs In-Flight Wedding

To inaugurate new service from San Francisco to Las Vegas aboard Virgin America, on October 10 Sir Richard Branson performed an in-flight wedding on the new flight. The party included showgirls from La Reve, Carmen Electra, World Series of Poker Champ Jamie Gold, and Kyla Ebbert (who you might remember was removed from another airline's flight because of an "inappropriate" outfit).

With 25 movies on demand, onboard instant messaging, videogames, 3,000 MP3 tracks and other features that add up to a different flying experience, Virgin America is also offering attractive fares: $44* one-way San Francisco-Las Vegas fares in the Main Cabin and $149* one-way in First Class. On November 4, Virgin America will add two more daily roundtrips to Vegas from San Francisco for a total of five flights a day.

Along with Virgin Group Founder and Chairman, Sir Richard Branson, the flight included famous guests and Virgin America friends on board the first flight to Vegas. Later that day, Penn & Teller hosted a daredevil "Virgin America Takes Vegas" stunt at the Palms, where Branson "dropped-in" with his usual derring-do. The fun continued that evening with a party at the Wynn Resort, which featured the cast of Showtime's hit series "Dexter" and a celebrity poker game hosted by Jamie Gold with all proceeds going to the winner's charity of choice.

Details on Fares: All fares are one way. Tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable. All fares require a 14-day advance purchase. Changes or cancellations can be made for a $40 fee, plus any increase in fare if applicable. Tickets purchased from Virgin America through our reservation call centers will cost an additional $5 per itinerary. Seats are limited, subject to availability, and may not be available on all flights. Fares, routes, and schedules are subject to change without notice. Fares do not include Passenger Facility Charges of up to $9 each way, September 11th Security Fees of up to $5 each way and a Federal Segment Tax of $3.40 per domestic segment. A segment is a takeoff and landing. Fares will not be honored retroactively or in exchange for any wholly or partially used ticket. The start date for Washington (IAD)-Los Angeles non-stop service is October 24, 2007.

08162007: Vegas Hotels Grow, Renovate

It's a sure bet that when it comes to Las Vegas hotels, things are always getting bigger and better. We've received word of two big projects that will add new appeal to what are already two very popular hotels on the Strip:

• Caesars Palace
Look for a $1 billion (yes, billion) expansion at this mega-hotel on the Strip. The project adds the new 665-room Octavius Tower. The Octavius Tower will be located adjacent to a new 263,000-square-foot meeting and convention center. Three new luxurious pool villa suites will be built along the second floor of the new tower and will overlook three new swimming pools that will rim an expanded outdoor whirlpool spa retreat, a poolside café and nearby garden wedding venue. The expansion is slated for completion in early 2009. In addition to the new Octavius Tower, the resort’s existing 512-room Forum Tower will undergo a major refurbishment.

• Luxor
Just down the street, Luxor has unveiled a big renovation plan of its own. The
multi-phase plan is designed to bring new energy to the south end of the Las Vegas Strip. The first phase will encompass the casino level. Projects in Phase One of Luxor’s evolution include a host of sexy-chic new restaurants, lounges and nightspots, as well as a spa-like poolside lounge, redesigned casino floor and Cirque du Soleil show featuring illusionist Criss Angel.

Later, the second phase focuses on changes to the property’s signature atrium and galleria areas including several retail changes, a re-branded coffee shop and new buffet. The third phase will concentrate on room remodeling and is planned to begin in 2009.
