Princess Diana’s Wedding Dress To Be Displayed in Edmonton

As Anglophiles look forward to the future of the monarchy with the 2013 arrival of Prince William’s and The Duchess of Cambridge’s bundle of joy, a trip to Canada in the new year will offer royal watchers the chance to peer back into the past and relive treasured memories of the people’s princess.

On February 9, 2013 West Edmonton Mall will unveil Diana, A Celebration, the award-winning exhibition on loan from The Althorp Estate. More than 150 of The Princess of Wales’s personal possessions will chronicle Diana’s transformation from a private citizen into a beloved public figure, starting with rare home movies, school girl souvenirs and the cherished childhood toys which create a portrait of the queen of people’s hearts in her younger years.

A little imagination is all it will take to transport visitors back to 1981 as they view the most iconic “I do” dress of the century. The beauty of the Emanual gown, complete with its Carrickmacross lace, 10,000 pearl and mother of pearl accents and 25-foot train that retains its title of being the longest length of fabric on royal wedding record, will be embellished by the sparkle of the Spencer tiara and the same Clive Shilton slippers which bore the bride to the altar on St. Paul’s Cathedral as the world looked on.

The princess’s prominence on the world stage is showcased in 28 designer dresses, while her charity work and moving mementoes from her passing remind viewers of the legacy of love which Diana left behind.

A happening with heart, all profits generated from Diana, A Celebration will benefit the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund.

When: February 9 – June 9, 2013
