Buddy Holly’s 76th Birthday Celebrated in Lubbock Sept. 7

His tunes were the soundtrack to the love lives of 50s soul mates, and today the songs of Buddy Holly and The Crickets continue to captivate the rock ‘n roll romantics who will show the world that their love for Lubbock’s favorite son will “Not Fade Away” at a 76th birthday celebration of an icon who helped to bring about the birth of a musical genre.

September 7, 2012– “That’ll Be the Day” when fans flock in remembrance of the rocker at the Buddy Holly Center, where the late singer’s memory will live on throughout the day during special screenings of Buddy Holly: Listen to Me, a concert captured on film which features cover tunes of Buddy’s classic hits by such stars as Stevie Nicks, Jackson Browne, Ringo Starr, The Fray, Zooey Deschanel, Chris Isaak, Train’s Pat Monahan and more.

The past is ever present in the Buddy Holly Gallery during a free guided tour which takes tourists past such personal items as homework assignments, letters penned by fans, a recoding microphone, stage suits, the singer’s treasured collection of 45s and a 45 of his own hit single “True Love Ways.”

No birthday would be complete without cupcakes and punch, which will be served to the guests who will move their feet to the beat of The Dustin Garrett Band, performing in the Meadows Courtyard.
