An entire season turned out to be a dream during its initial run, but now the real life reverie of a Dallas revival has become a reality for fans of the series. On June 13th TNT will deliver all the desire and deception expected of the Ewings as the stars reprise their roles at the Southfork Ranch.
The epitome of Texas excess, Southfork was purchased in 1992 by Forever Resorts Founder Rex Maughan, who has preserved the Lone Star landmark’s world-famous exterior architecture and renovated the famed site’s interior. The mansion itself is open daily to visitors, attracting 400,000 fans of the Dallas series from around the world annually.
Today TV-loving twosomes can relive all the retro romance at the ranch’s Dallas Legends exhibit, where Lucy Ewing’s wedding dress and the gun that shot J.R.– and shot the series into the rarified stratosphere of pop culture icon status– are among the many items rounded up for public viewing.
A tour of Southfork includes glimpses at the glamour of rooms that reflect the personalities of the ranch’s small screen residents, from Jock’s living room to J.R. bedroom suite. During a day’s stay fans can also dine at Miss Ellie’s Deli and mull over the merchandise at Lincolns & Longhorns Texas apparel boutique, where Jock’s Lincoln Continental is parked.
Southfork is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Christmas Eve until 3 p.m.), except for Christmas Day and Thanksgiving Day. Tours depart the Visitor’s Center every 30 to 45 minutes and run continuously throughout the day. The last guided tour of the day begins at 4:30 p.m. daily (2:30 p.m. on Christmas Eve).
