We know that many Lovetripper readers (as do we) use Walgreens stores. They’re so easy to find everywhere you go and they offer a wide variety of products and services that are useful to travelers including the largest number of 24-hour and drive-thru pharmacies in the country. No one wants to get sick on a vacation but, now and again, it happens. It’s always nice to know that those services are available in many destinations that romantic travelers may visit.
However, for many couples—including military couples–traveling, it’s now tougher to get those prescriptions filled. For a year, negotiations have been underway between Walgreens and Express Scripts so that the popular drug stores could continue as part of Express Scripts pharmacy provider network. Negotiations didn’t work out and now Express Scripts customers will find themselves unable to use their card at Walgreens. Fortunately, Walgreens has a special offer this month to help.
Before your next trip, check your prescription insurance plan to see if you are impacted. Check with your local Walgreens pharmacist to find out for sure if you’ll be able to get your prescriptions filled at Walgreens stores when you travel. You can also look at the back of your prescription insurance card; if you see the name Express Script, you may be impacted. If it doesn’t say Express Scripts, you’ll know that you are not affected by the change.
You can take advantage of a special discount on the Prescription Savings Club at Walgreens. During this January promotion, one person can join for $5, a family (including your pets!) can join for $10. (The regular price is $20 for an individual membership or $35 for a family to join.) The Prescription Savings Club will provide savings on over 8,000 brand name and all generic medications. In all, you’ll find over 400 generics that are available with a three-month supply for under $1 a week.
