For 40 years Masterpiece has brought the best British presentations of classics, mysteries and contemporary tales to American television sets, and in celebration of its landmark anniversary the PBS series is offering viewers the chance to win a view of the architectural masterpieces which have starred in some of the series’ productions.
Through April 26, 2011 Anglophiles can enter to win a four-day, three-night getaway to the UK, courtesy of Masterpiece and VisitBritain. One lucky pair of literary lovebirds will enjoy VIP tours of such small screen sites as:
- Highclere Castle, which provided a dramatic backdrop for the lives of the Crawley family on Downton Abbey.
- Greenway, Agatha Christie’s holiday home, which holds the mysteries of her private life.
- Blenheim Palace, the birthplace of Winston Churchill, which also played a role in the production of The Lost Prince.
The winners will unpack their luggage at MacDonald Hotels & Resorts in Bath, a portal to the past for lovers of Jane Austen and a filming location for the PBS version of Persuasion, and Oxford, where Inspector Lewis solved crimes.
Travel must take place between September 11 – 15, 2011.
