The sands of time are set to shift on the grounds of the Mount Hope Estate & Winery as romantics relive the revelry of the 16th century during the 30th anniversary year of the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire.
Taking place over a 12-week period from August 14 – October 31, 2010, visitors will find themselves in the presence of the past as they cheer for the noble knights who vie for victory in the jousting arena or the swashbucklers battling for supremacy in a game of Human Chess.
From costumed characters merrily mangling Shakespearean soliloquies to the daring deeds of fire breathers, sword swallowers and jugglers, a steady stream of engaging entertainers will wow the crowds at 13 open-air stages. Revelers should return to find out which theme has been schemed for each successive weekend– some days are dedicated to the Heroes of the Realm, another weekend is an homage to Oktoberfest, and love is in the air during the Chivalry and Romance weekend.
Marvel at the skill of artisans as they invoke ancient ways– a herbalist conjures up medieval “magic” with botanicals and a blacksmith will forge fighting gear worthy of gallant knights. To take home your own souvenir of your stay in the 16th century, browse among booths brimming with Olde Worlde-inspired wares.
