The National Geographic Channel looks at the non-traditional ways love is defined by people around the world in two unusual specials tonight: “Inside Polygamy: Life in Bountiful” (a companion piece to the February issue of the National Geographic Magazine) and “Taboo: Stranger Love,” a look at men whose lives are real life examples of Lars and the Real Girl, plus couples who choose to have open relationships.

INSIDE POLYGAMY: LIFE IN BOUNTIFUL
Broadcast: Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at 9PM ET/PT

It’s a real-life “Big Love.” Winston Blackmore is the family patriarch and leader of a fundamentalist Mormon polygamist community in Bountiful, British Columbia, that includes his 20-some wives and more than 100 children. Winston, like all who practice “the principle,” believes that plural marriage and siring dozens of children will help guarantee his entrance into the highest of Heavens.

TABOO: STRANGE LOVE
Broadcast: Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at 10PM ET/PT

Witness a real-life “Lars and the Real Girl” relationship, when a man in the United States falls in love with a sex doll. In Australia, meet a couple who stay faithful by having sex with strangers.
