Platinum Club Level Service, which is a $40-per-night upgrade, includes a suite with a guaranteed ocean view, extra-comfort beds and linens, special areas for check-in and check-out, butler service, fruit basket, bottle of sparkling wine, turndown service with hors d’oeuvres, and other extras.
All prices include unlimited food and drinks and full use of the resort’s many luxury facilities and amenities.
Why It’s Dreamy: Open since Feb. 18, 2006, the Marina El Cid is near the beach, just onshore from Morelos National Reef Park in the town of Puerto Morelos, 30 minutes from Cancun International Airport.
Marina El Cid’s 200 spacious suites are located in 11 four-story structures surrounding a 22,000 square-foot, free-form pool with a waterfall and swim-up bar. The hotel also operates a full-service, 350-slip marina for those who arrive by yacht or sailboat.
All guest suites have a minimalist décor and either an oceanfront or pool view. They feature marble floors and baths, private terraces, a living area and full kitchenette. Additionally, they include 24-hour room service and a pillow menu. Each two and three-bedroom suite also has a built-in Jacuzzi on the balcony.
Marina El Cid offers everything from yoga and tai-chi lesson to tennis and water sports. There are two large swimming pools, including an “activities pool” with waterfall, waterslide and in-water lounge chairs.
An adults-only Mediterranean day lounge on the beach features massage tents, private palapa huts, a mega Jacuzzi, and an expansive wooden sun deck.
The walk from the hotel lobby to the beach is five minutes. Besides lazing in the sun, guests can enjoy a variety of water sports, including boogie boarding, snorkeling, sailing, kayaking, scuba diving, windsurfing and beach volleyball. Or, they can test their agility, platform diving into nearby cenotes (round caves filled with water).
Plans also are underway to open the El Cid Theater in the late summer or early fall. The theater will feature nightly themed dinner shows.
