Redwood National Park, California

The majestic California redwoods are the focal point of this beautiful national park. You’ll still find several “drive through” trees where you can take your own special photos.

Are We There Yet?

The park is located in northern California. From San Francisco take US 101 for 397 miles to the Redwood Information Center, located two miles west of Orick.

If you are coming from the north, head south on US101 from Brookings, Oregon to Crescent City, California, home of the park headquarters. The park is four miles northeast of the city.

What’s There To Do?

One of the most popular activities is definitely a drive through the giant trees. The Tunnel Tree is no longer standing but you’ll still find drive-through trees in the area on Highway 101 (admission charges for each). The Klamath Tour Thru Tree is off the Terwer Valley Exit in the town of Klamath, the Shrine Drive-Thru Tree is near the town of Myers Flat off the Avenue of the Giants exit, and the Chandelier Tree is off Highway 101 in Leggett.

Be sure to stop by the information centers in the national park for more about these spectacular coastal redwoods.

Another popular activity is a visit to the tidepools on Enderts Beach Road, three miles south of Crescent City off Highway 101. Bring along the beach shoes to explore the tidepools (and even to do some whale watching!)

Whe
n Are We Going?

Summer is the peak time for this park.

How Long Are We Staying?

Allow at least half a day to look at the highlights of the park.

What Should We Bring?

Bring a jacket, even during the summer months, as well as walking shoes and beach shoes that can get wet if you’ll be exploring the tide pool areas.

Which One Is Our Room?

There are campgrounds in the state park areas; for information see the official website. These parks fill up during the peak season of May through September.

For more options, call the Orick Chamber of Commerce or the Crescent City Chamber of Commerce.
