Herbert Hoover National Historic Site, Iowa

The 31st president of the United States is remembered at this park which includes his birthplace. Several historic buildings are also found in the park.

Are We There Yet?

From Iowa City, head east on I-80 to West Branch and take exit 254. The park is 4/10 of a mile away.

What’s There To Do Here?

You can tour the Birthplace Cottage from April through November and see exhibits on the region at the visitor center. The highlight of the park is the Presidential Library-Museum, recently expanded. Begin at the rotunda and see the map of the world made of red granite. Exhibits at the museum trace Hoover’s life, starting with the two-room cottage where he was born through his presidential years.

When Are We Going?

Summer is the peak time for a visit to this park, although conditions are pleasant in spring and fall as well.

How Long Are We Staying?

The park doesn’t take long to see. Budget one or two hours for a look at the cottage and the library.

Where Are We Going From Here?

The community of West Branch, located nearby has many historic buildings and nice country restaurants. For more information write West Branch Chamber of Commerce, P.O. Box 365, West Branch, Iowa 52358.
