Getting Married in Rome

We're both stationed overseas and want to meet in Rome for a January wedding. Do you have the regulations for weddings in Rome? Do we need divorce decrees (we've both been married previously)? Can you help us with the arrangements?

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!! Rome is a great city for a wedding...you’ll have wonderful wedding photos! Italy is a little trickier for weddings in terms of regulations that some other destinations, though, so it’s good that you’re starting early.

We don’t have the regulations for Rome but we do have Florence’s marriage regulations; the process will be much the same with the office location different. Here’s a page on Lovetripper covering Florence’s wedding regulations and paperwork requirements.

Many couples choose to go through a wedding coordinator to handle the paperwork (especially if they don’t speak Italian). Some of the larger hotels have on-staff wedding coordinators; there are also independent coordinators you can hire to assist in the process. We interviewed the director of Weddings in Italy a while back; you’ll find that interview online. They’re based in Venice but I think they do weddings throughout Italy; they might can point you in the right directions. (We don’t know what their charges are; we’re not affiliated with them at all.)
