Which Name Should I Put on My New Passport?

I'm getting my first US passport to use on my honeymoon. Should I have it issued in my maiden name or my new name?

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! You'll want to have your passport--and your airline tickets--issued in your maiden name (unless you'll be honeymooning months after the wedding and will have time for all the name change paperwork to be processed.)

Your airline tickets need to match the name on your passport and your passport has to be issued under your legal name, which, at application time, is your maiden name.

Don't worry, though; you'll be able to update your passport with your married name once your name change paperwork is finalized.
