Island Weddings Near the US

What island destinations close to the US offer complete wedding packages, making it easier to marry at the particular destination(s) with minimal coordination of the planning from the mainland?

That's a good question. While resorts on all the islands offer good wedding packages, what makes the biggest difference in the ease of getting married is the local law. When you look at the laws of each destination you want to look at:

• the amount of paperwork (do you just need to traditional papers like birth certificates or do you need translated documents as in the case of the Dominican Republic)
• the length of the residency period (the number of days you have to "reside" on island before the wedding can be performed)
• blood test requirements (most destinations no longer require blood tests but they are required in Mexico)
• can all the legalities be done at the resort or by your wedding planner...or will the two of you need to visit a government office to complete the paperwork (as is the case for both the US Virgin Islands and St. Lucia)

  Two of the easiest wedding destinations near the US are the Bahamas and Jamaica. Your wedding coordinator at the resort can handle all your paperwork (much of it via fax before your trip) and the wedding arrangements are easy.
