Digital
Cameras & X-Rays
Is it safe to put my digital camera through the airport x-ray machines? I don't want to zap my honeymoon pictures! Yes. Both of us shoot only digital these days and we send our cameras and memory cards through the airport x-ray machines every trip. What you don't want to do is get the cards near a magnetic zapper like those used to demagnetize security tags after you buy something at the store. Those can erase your cards (and even mess up the magnetic strips on the back of your credit cards.) If you shoot film on your trip, you are safe to send that through the x-ray machine if it is slower than ASA 800 film. High speed film should be given to the security agent for hand inspection.
