Cruising from NYC to Wedding

My fiance and I were thinking about having a vacation wedding. We are from NY and have a problem, though. Some of the family members refuse to fly. We were trying to get around this by a cruise to a location and getting married while we are there. Can you recommend any suggestions that we can explore further? Any info you can help us with would be greatly appreciated.

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! One idea that comes to mind (probably because we just returned from there) is Bermuda. You can cruise from NY to Bermuda directly. The cruises generally make several stops on the island, spending a day or two in Hamilton, St. George, and the Dockyards so you can explore that portion of the island without traveling too far. (There are no rental cars in Bermuda for tourists; you have to taxi, hop the bus, or grab a scooter.) Bermuda is a safe, elegant destination that’s perfect for exploring with a wedding party.

Weddings in Bermuda are easy to arrange although most people do go through either a hotel (possible even if you’re on a cruise) or a local wedding planner because Bermuda requires banns be published (announcing the upcoming wedding in the local paper). Paperwork is simple, though, and you can opt for a wedding on the beach (and there are many great ones around the island with the trademark pink sand.)

Best wishes! Paris and John
