Carry-On Luggage

We're leaving soon on a second honeymoon in Acapulco. The flight is a charter and they only allow one small carry on bag per person. What's most important for me to carry on?

Good question. If you've ever stood at the end of the luggage conveyor belt and waited...unsuccessfully for your luggage to come off, you know that it's important to pack that carry on bag very carefully. If your luggage is lost or delayed, it will be your only luggage for a few days. (We once traveled a week in Jordan with a group of journalists; one writer's bag was delayed the entire trip so his carry on luggage was his ONLY gear for the whole week!)

Here's what we always tuck in our carry on luggage:

• all paperwork (never, never put passports, IDs, contact numbers, money, confirmation numbers, itineraries, tickets, etc. in your checked bags. We usually keep this with us in a backpack.)
• all medication, makeup, jewelry
• one set of clothes each (if we can squeeze it in, we put in one set of dressy clothes and one set of day clothes each)
• camera
• any hard to replace items (if you shopped for a month for that special swimsuit, tuck it in the carry on)
