How to Keep My Bridal Makeup From Melting?

I will be getting married in June in Montego Bay, Jamaica. I’m worried about my makeup in the sun. The ceremony is scheduled for late in the day but before sunset so I know it will probably be quite warm. Do you have any suggestions for how I can keep my makeup from melting? — Rhonda, New Jersey

That’s a good question! We’ve gone to a cosmetics pro to find you an answer to this one and asked celebrity makeup artist Zena Dixon, owner of Red Carpet Bridal Beauty, for her advice. Dixon says:

Beautiful makeup begins with great skin care. In addition to your skin care regimen, exfoliating the skin will rid it of layers of dead skin that can allow new, supple skin to emerge. She should then follow up with a moisturizer that’s ideal for her skin type..allowing the moisturizer 10 minutes to be absorbed by the skin.

Then follow with a primer, my fav is Smashbox. It will fill in fine lines and pores for a flawless canvas for foundation.

Next up, apply foundation, sparingly, only where needed – usually around the eyes to brighten, in the corners of the nose and on any little blemishes. Then set (very important) with an illuminating loose powder, like NARS Sparkling Loose Powder. This give the luminous look of love to your skin, it’s subtle yet sublime.

Now on the the eyes, prime with another fave, Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion. This is great because it’s a primer with a champagne shimmer tint, muy perfecto for beach nuptials. You may follow with your favorite eyeshadow for more depth and the primer will then act as a highlighter. Use a waterproof eyeliner for those tears of joy, Makeup Forever’s Aqua Eyes. These liners are fabulous as they are formulated to withstand water even under the most extreme conditions. Create a fluttery lash with waterproof mascara, try Lancomes Hypnose Waterproof Mascara, it’s GREAT!

For the blushing bride, no wedding is complete without NARS blush, in Orgasm. This hue of sheer peachy pink with subtle golden highlights looks spectacular on everyone.

To finish your beachy bridal look, use a lip stain, it will provide the most staying power though a night of kisses. Benefit’s Posietint is a wonderful choice as it’s a pretty, warm pink that will enhance your natural lip color. Just follow with a swipe of clear gloss and your look is complete, completely long lasting and completely beautiful.

There you have it, from a real pro whose company provides not only a la carte services like airbrush make-up, air-brush tanning, and eyebrow shaping and packages such as total bridal indulgence, bridal beauty make-up, and bridal hair but also do full-day bridal beauty sessions that start at $1500. Red Carpet Bridal Beauty will even travel to your pre-wedding destination—a hotel suite, home, or yacht—to do their makeup magic for the bride and wedding party.
