I have a new beau and I want to go to a very romantic getaway with him – perhaps in Europe (Italy maybe), but maybe closer to home (we live in Boston). We want great food, art, antiques, museums, quaint, beauty, and charm. I have been to Florence, Venice, Tuscany… I don’t mind going there again – I just want some suggestions for an amazingly romantic time. I am so interested in what you suggest – location and where to stay.
Thanks for your email. You’re in a great location in Boston for a quick getaway, even for a long weekend in London (check out Red Carnation hotels for some romantic properties right in the city) or a quick trip to Dublin.
You might also consider the Mediterranean (especially if you’re looking for a destination that’s a little warmer); Malta is a great choice that we loved and it’s filled with history and great food.
If you’re looking for something much closer to home, Quebec City is a favorite thanks to its French atmosphere (without the long flight); check out the Fairmont Hotels for some good options. If the two of you enjoy wineries, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Canada is a nice choice; you can hop a carriage ride or rent bikes and journey from winery to winery. The atmosphere is much, much quieter than Niagara Falls but it’s an easy afternoon trip to Niagara Falls for some gaming, a look at the falls, and an evening out.
Looking for something warmer? Bermuda has springlike weather (not warm enough for swimming) during this time; we loved Cambridge Beaches, a very romantic property.
Happy travels! Paris and John
